President Trump awarded Rush Limbaugh the Presidential Medal of Freedom during the State of the Union Address on Tuesday evening.
The President had First Lady Melania Trump place the medal on Limbaugh. They were seated together in the gallery.
According to The Hill:
Breaking with State of the Union tradition, President Trump on Tuesday paused his annual address to Congress to recognize conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh in the gallery and allow first lady Melania Trump to award him the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
The president praised Limbaugh, 69, who this week announced he is battling stage 4 lung cancer.
“Here tonight is a special man, someone beloved by millions of Americans, who just received a stage 4 advanced cancer diagnosis. This is not good news, but what is good news is that he is the greatest fighter and winner that you will ever meet,” President Trump said.
“Rush Limbaugh, thank you for your decades of tireless devotion to our country. Rush, in recognition of all that you have done for our nation, the millions of people a day that you speak to and inspire, and all of the incredible work that you have done for charity, I am proud to announce tonight that you will be receiving our country’s highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom,” he added.
Democrats remained seated during the honor while Republicans gave a standing ovation.
