McConnell Tempers Midterm Expectations After Recent Primary Outcomes

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is changing his tune on how many Senate seats Republicans will flip in the midterm elections after a number of Trump-backed candidates beat out more traditionally conservative candidates.

President Biden’s poor approval ratings and the historical pattern of the president’s party losing seats in the middle of their first term in office were two reasons why McConnell earlier projected that Republicans would perform “extremely well” in the 2022 midterm elections.

But expectations of a Republican tidal wave in November have been dampened by the success of candidates endorsed by former President Trump, who continues to focus on his accusations of widespread election fraud in 2020, as well as the erratic performance of other Senate GOP candidates.

McConnell offered a sobering analysis in a midweek interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier.

“I think it’s going to be very tight. We have a 50-50 nation. And I think when this Senate race smoke clears, we’re likely to have a very, very close Senate still, with us up slightly or the Democrats up slightly,” McConnell said Wednesday evening.

He noted that Republican candidates like J.D. Vance, Mehmet Oz and Herschel Walker are struggling in recent polls against their Democratic opponents. Trump endorsed all three and is largely responsible for boosting their primary wins.

This week in Arizona and Missouri, two more Trump-backed candidates secured wins. Blake Masters and state Attorney General Eric Schmitt both saw victories after campaigning on Trump’s claims of election fraud.

Democrats have controversially been funding and supporting Trump’s candidates in primaries, believing they’ll be more easily defeated in general elections and help the party cling to their current 50-50 majority, with Vice President Kamala Harris acting as tiebreaker.

The RINOs that McConnell would prefer would be doing worse.

Mitch McConnell is a Rino himself as he said that President Donald J. Trump should be held accountable for the January 6th Riot at the Capital. We don’t need corrupt politicians running our Country into the ground. But beware TRUE Republican Politicians running for a Position in the Senate or Congress as we all know that the Voter Fraud was Minimal to a certain degree but it was done in the right states being chosen to win the Presidential Election by a person who campaigned very very little and today he doesn’t even know his own name. If by chance that the republicans take control of the House and the Senate then they should start many investigations involving most of the Democratic party for all the false accusations causing long-term investigations to be a daily chore with no results of those accusations against President Donald J. Trump having been proved. The FBI and the Justice Department have to look at the Players involved in the spreading of the false narrative of Russia Collusion and not by a Kangaroo court by no means. All the talk from key deep state people is that there was no evidence of mass voter fraud. I agree but there was big voter fraud in the 5 States a candidate had to win in order to become President-Elect. These 5 States changed their voting rules and times allotted for people to vote and allowed mass mail-in ballots which many didn’t have proper signature verification and mostly they did these changes illegally without going through the States Legislatures to get approval. Now that is mass voter Fraud for sure.

Best assessment! Bravo! The Republican Party Establishment is filled with stodgy old career politicians who would preserve the status quo at any cost. ‘All men are conservative after dinner.’ R.W. Emerson

McConnell doesn’t understand that the American people don’t want business as usual candidates. We want people that are interested in doing what it takes to undo the damage this administration has done, and someone who puts the people’s interests ahead of their own. McConnel is out of step with the people, just like those of his ilk. If the Republicans win the Senate, he needs to be replaced as Senate majority leader.

As an independent, I have not committed to one person/party yet but the way current situations are going, it helps me decide a lot easier

let’s be optimistic and predict that all available seats will go to the republican party. Yes, Trump lost by dancing on the graves of women dying of botched abortions. He lost my support

Hopefully, when the dust finally settles, the Republicans will oust McConnell once-and-for-all.

McConnell and other ‘senior’ (read old guys who like second place) need to go. I said early on, Republicans have the ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory!, and they are now reducing their expectations, whereas they should be exposing the facts and rationale to flip both and restore constitutional governance.
