American Airlines Asks Workers to do the Unthinkable

via Wikimedia Commons

American Airlines wants its workers to work for free. At least for the summer.

According to The Daily Wire:

American Airlines is asking its employees to volunteer their time in order to help with the increase in travelers over the summer.

The airline is requesting that its headquarters employees volunteer at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport this summer as more people head out of town to travel after the pandemic.

“As we look forward to welcoming back more of our customers this summer, we know they’re counting on us to deliver a reliable operation and help them feel comfortable as they return after many months away from traveling,” American Airlines spokeswoman Sarah Jantz said in a statement, per the Tampa Bay Times. “That’s something our front-line teams are experts on as they regularly go above and beyond to take care of our customers. To ensure they have the support they need this summer and beyond, our corporate support teams will provide additional support at DFW.”

According to the Times, American Airlines isn’t making its workers volunteer, but if they do give up their time, they won’t be paid for the additional effort. They also must work the extra hours when they are not carrying out their regular requirements.

It appears they will provide assistance to passengers who need help.

How many are on salary to begin with? I gave a lot of free hours, both as a salaried employee and hourly. I find nothing wrong with the request. I realize AA’s head quarters are in Dallas, that just indicates they have more high paid employees in Dallas than in most of the rest of their locations.
Based on previous experience with AA staff in Dallas, they probable do that already. They should get recognized for the good they do and not just what they get paid to do.

The same airlines that claims the Georgia voting laws are so detrimental to “poor black people.” It’s SO hard for those folks to get a photo ID. Try getting on one this airlines’ planes without one! BS liberal hypocrisy at its finest.

Hope fully hanging out with hoffa…. the unions were never any good just a drain on companies, Of three Union companies I have worked for all were bankrupted by the union…. and We couldn’t even get on the Call out board,
for leads on jobs, Unions are the worst thing that have happened since the thirties, in the days of coal and rockefeller maybe they had a purpose now they are a scam, source of Income for the Dems, and an obstruction to education…. for the twenty first century young

Most of the airlines ARE unionized. IAM, Teamsters-Airline Division, and others. They are aware of their members discontent over this.

Not as many passengers as you might expect, AA. There are lots of us who will NEVER AGAIN board one of your planes after all the customer abuse you so viciously dished out.

Just which socialists, in the Democrat Party are giving advice to the AA management? Is the management so stupid as to think that socialism (in ANY form) actually works? Where have they been for the last 100 years? It seems as though the present Democrat administration is proposing every socialist/Communist program they can dredge up, that’s failed in the old Soviet Union and all of the other lesser failures. Question? Is it time for a military take-over of the failed Democrat administration?

RIGHT, and notice that AA has NOT SAID that MANAGEMENT, from TOP to Bottom will be “Volunteering” all their time and working for NO PAY during this time? If business is going to be “Picking Up” so much, they should all get a RAISE, but don’t hold your breath waiting for that t happen.

SALARIED workers NEVER work a 40 hour week, and NEVER get overtime. Headquarters people usually are salaried, and are expected to do an occasional “in the trenches” bit.

Most of us who work enjoy a break from our normal day.

I have been salaried most of my life, because professional people normally are salaried.

This is a non story looking for attention.

When you can’t get a refund on a missed flight for problems beyond your control, they should volunteer then!

They ask and you say no. Simple as that. Am a retired A&P and I’d say no.

Sorta sounds as if they are giving customers a heads up as to the service they can expect this summer and probably into the future. How are the “power’s that be” at American Airlines expecting these unpaid workers to feed their families and pay their mortgages or rent?? Craziest thing I’ve heard coming from any corporation ever!! A good strategy to declare bankruptcy in my opinion.

Just take the CEO bug mouth pay. she can volunteer for the whole year, and her pay spread for new employees or pay overtime.

If they have to work for free, why can’t I FLY for free?

A federal case with similar characteristics was just decided in Puerto Rico. The employer who allowed the workers to work for free lost the case.

That makes absolutely no sense to ask employees to work for nothing, while CEOs and other higher ups sit on their butts and get paid. If I worked for the airlines, I would volunteer my time IF an CEO volunteered theirs. But until then, I have family to support and bills to pay.
Don’t ask someone to do something that you yourself won’t do.

Maybe instead of asking there to work for free management and the heads of the airlines should slash there high salaries and pay there workers they can afford it the lower paid workers cannot
