Biden Promoting Business Tied to His Cabinet Official
Joe Biden is set to highlight a business tied to Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm.

Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm owns up to $5 million in the electric battery and vehicle manufacturer President Joe Biden will promote on Tuesday as part of his push for a $1.9 trillion infrastructure bill.
AdvertisementBiden’s virtual visit to the electric battery producer Proterra comes days after Vice President Kamala Harris paid a visit to Thomas Built Buses, a North Carolina-based school bus company that counts Proterra as its main supplier of electric vehicles. The back-to-back White House visits to Granholm-connected companies risk at least the appearance of impropriety and demonstrate how lawmakers can use policy initiatives to pad their own wallets. Biden’s infrastructure package includes a $174 billion investment in the electric vehicle market, calls for the replacement of “50,000 diesel transit vehicles” in favor of electric alternatives, and creates a Clean Buses for Kids program that will “electrify at least 20 percent of our yellow school bus fleet.”
Granholm has taken a leading role in the administration’s forthcoming infrastructure package. The president in February tasked her with “identifying risks in the supply chain for high-capacity batteries, including electric-vehicle batteries, and policy recommendations to address these risks.”

Granholm joined Proterra’s board of directors in March 2017; internet archives list her as a board member as recently as February 19, 2021, shortly before her confirmation on February 25. Her financial disclosures reveal up to $5 million worth of stock options in the green tech company, which went public in January through the special purpose acquisition company ArcLight Clean Transition Corp. Arclight, a NASDAQ-listed company, saw shares shoot up about 55 percent since its September IPO, a spike financial traders attributed directly to the acquisition of Proterra.
The White House has confirmed that Granholm still holds stock in Proterra.

Why is it the Biden admin. can use the taxpayer’s money to pay for Harris’ childern’s books and give them away to the illegal immigrants and now have Granholm, with $5 million in stock options in a company that Biden is promoting for battery purchases and they don’t find it as a conflict of interest? Why aren’t the dems ever held accountable? Do they wear some sort of impeneterable spray that makes them immune to interrogation? They would lie their way through it anyway.
These politicians are all alike. Pass a bill that pads their wallet from tax paying citizens. Then write tax laws to enforce it.

I read one of the early articles about this proposal where they claimed that the $400,000 purchase price of an electric school bus is roughly double the cost for a diesel. First lie, the average cost for a diesel or gasoline powered school bus ranges from $94,000 to $145,000 depending on whether it is a conventional or a front or rear engine transit.
Second problem is that many states offer no or little funding for the cost of replacement school buses, meaning that many poor districts continue to use pre-emission standards (latest standards 2012) buses because they cannot afford to upgrade to cleaner burning diesel buses.
Third problem, the proposed grant would mandate funds for the initial purchase of electric vehicles, what about future battery replacement? Many districts keep their buses for fifteen to twenty years, there is no commercially produced battery that lasts that long. That replacement would be on the backs of the local impoverished districts, not a small expense. Remember the Tesla owner’s shock when he found that replacing the batteries in his three year old car would cost him around $30,000? Imagine that cost at a couple hundred thousand per bus.
Now look at the reality of the precious metals that are required to build those batteries, look at the environmental damage that occurs in the countries that provide them, and the fact that most are only available from foreign countries because Americans would not tolerate that damage in their own country.
Not to mention the disposal of the spent batteries.
