Trump Directs Federal Agencies to Move Offices to ‘Opportunity Zones’

President Trump has issued an order that directs federal agencies to move into “opportunity zones” in order to spur investment in the nation’s poorest communities.

According to The New York Post:

WASHINGTON — President Trump on Monday will order federal agencies to prioritize moving their offices to Opportunity Zones to spur investment in some of the nation’s poorest neighborhoods, The Post has learned.

The move will apply to all federal agencies and asks that they stop prioritizing city centers and central business districts and instead base themselves in any of the 8,769 low-income communities designated as Opportunity Zones by the Trump administration.

The initiative has driven more than $75 billion in private investment into disadvantaged communities in the two years since it was created, according to a report released earlier Monday by the White House Council of Economic Advisers.

A senior White House official said the order would see immense federal resources poured into distressed communities and also drive down the high cost of locating government offices in expensive business districts.

Opportunity Zones encourage investment in port neighborhoods by giving tax incentives to people who invest there.

What are the opportunity zones? I mean the neighborhoods, etc.?

Instead of the more high profile well off business districts, he wants them to be in the less well off areas, not like the neighborhoods, but the more low rent districts, the mor eor less poorer areas, that tend to be a bit more crime ridden, and there is also less money and less work.

Not a bad idea actually. with the federal officers right there it would be a bit of a deterrent to some of the crime, as well as the money spent by them in some of the shops, coffee, lunch, take out, that kind of thing, and possibly some jobs in some of the buildings for a few people.

Could be a blessing for some of these areas.

Can you say Awesome!!!! I can’t think of a better way to spur economic growth than to bring people into these areas to spend money.

The President should also make it a requirement for ALL Senate and House Members have their offices in the Poorest part of their Districts. In this way they will get the full experience of the Sights and Smells of the poverty in the areas that they are supposed to be representing.

More importantly we change election laws so that the person who represents the district must LIVE IN THE DISTRICT, now like several of these millionaire(+) congressmen/women who live ‘near’ the district they misrepresent but in a much more expensive area (Waters for example).

Great idea, the traffic in D.C. is horrendous. Put Dept of Agriculture out in Midwest scatter other offices throughout the U.S.
Should have been done long time ago.
That’s a business man thinking, not a swamp dweller.
