President Trump Signs the NDAA
The US Department of Agriculture is expected to provide over $15 billion in aid to farmers in order to keep the food supply chain strong.
According to The Hill:
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is expected to roll out a $15.5 billion initial stimulus plan aimed at supporting the nation’s food supply chain this week, starting with the farmers, according to Reuters.
The forthcoming plan aims to combat consumer food shortages as Americans flock to grocery stores and buy items in bulk while under stay-at-home orders. This looming supply problem is only exacerbated with the closing of meat packing facilities amid health and safety concerns. Smithfield Foods, the world’s largest pork processor, shut down its Sioux Falls plant earlier this week after several workers became infected with the coronavirus.
Sources tell Reuters that part of the plan will include direct payments to U.S. farmers and ranchers from the $23.5 billion included in the coronavirus relief bill, or the CARES Act, to support the U.S. agricultural sector. Existing USDA funds will be used as well.
According to the USDA, $9.5 billion within the total $23.5 billion allocated toward the USDA in the CARES Act aims at helping agricultural producers — including livestock, fruit and vegetable growers — who have been adversely impacted by the coronavirus pandemic through loss of buyers, loss of labor and other factors.
This is expected to be only one step in a plan to keep the supply chain of food strong in America.
I will believe that when I personally see the farmers cashing their checks. I do not trust the demonrats to do anything other than resist steal lie and blame trump
