Mitch McConnell has claimed that negotiations for the rules of an impeachment trial are over and it is time to move forward.
According to The Hill:
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) fired back at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi‘s decision to double down in their weeks-long fight over the impeachment trial and warned he will not haggle with House Democrats.
“I’ve made clear from the beginning that no such leverage exists. It’s nonexistent, and yesterday we made clear it will never exist. ….There will be no haggling with the House over Senate procedure,” McConnell said from the Senate floor.
He added that the “House Democrats’ turn is over. The Senate has made its decision.”
Pelosi (D-Calif.), in a “Dear Colleague” letter published on Tuesday night, called on McConnell to release the resolution that will detail the rules for the looming trial and warned that she will not send over the two articles until he does.
Pelosi is now saying that she will not transmit the article of impeachment to the Senate until Mitch McConnell reveals what the rules will be.
