Trump: Admin Considering Eliminating Birthright Citizenship

President Trump has announced that the administration is strongly considering ending the policy of birthright citizenship.

According to The Hill:

President Trump on Wednesday said his administration is once again seriously considering an executive order to end birthright citizenship months after several lawmakers cast doubt on his ability to take such action.

“We’re looking at that very seriously,” Trump told reporters as he left the White House for Kentucky. “Birthright citizenship, where you have a baby on our land — walk over the border, have a baby, congratulations, the baby’s now a U.S. citizen.”

“We are looking at birthright citizenship very seriously,” he added. “It’s, frankly, ridiculous.”

The president proposed ending the practice that grants citizenship to those born in the United States during his 2016 presidential campaign. He revived the idea last year, saying he would sign an executive order to enact the change.

Democrats and Republicans alike have pushed back on this idea claiming the president does not have the authority to make this type of change through executive order.

This has to STOP! It is an entire industry to bring Pregnant women to America to have babies. Some for money, some for college, some for a dual citizenship. Whatever reason it is not good for America or Americans. It needs to Stop ASAP. That one baby has a family of 6 who we now support. NO Thanks!

Just stop dancing around all this illegal crap and end all freebies given to these illegals. They will stop coming if there is nothing to come for. In addition, end all federal tax monies to these idiot sanctuary cities. Once these losers have to pay out of they own pocket that nonsense will stop also. Redirect all those monies to upgrading the VA, veterans in need and assisting active duty personnel.

I agree with Backgammon. We all need to pressure our Representatives to back the President on this one. Put an end to the “anchor baby” and all that goes along with that. Too many people come here just to gain a claim by having their baby here.

Please, please, please end this ridiculous practice which results in 25 people coming into the country as the result of one birth to a non-citizen!!! We can not continue to see our taxes increase as a result of allowing others to come in illegally!!!

Birthright citizenship should have been stopped long ago. Another thing to stop – Becoming a citizen by serving in our armed forces unless they totally and officially denounce the citizenship of their former country. When we had to depart the Philippines during the early eighties, the question being asked of the sailors was “If we go to war with Marcos, which side are you going to be on?”

This is a Constitutional Amendment that should happen, but won’t. While I agree with the President and others before him, the change required would be a huge win for The People. Our forefathers expected people to become citizens, all moving as one, in a common American civil society. Any EO is unconstitutional.

No, it’s a SCOTUS rule of the 14th Amendment. The 14th was written concerning freed slaves, who would now be citizens if born in the USA. It had nothing to do with illegal aliens or non citizens/non legal residents who had children while in this country. There was no problem with illegal aliens, or people immigrating to the USA when it was written, since everyone had to fend for themselves. There was no welfare, public healthcare (Medical) or SNAP programs.

Would not require a constitutional amendment just to finally give effect to the actual text in the first sentence of the Fourteenth Amendment that explicitly says that, “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.” Everyone seems to ignore the “subject to” clause. In the debate it was clear that, for example, the Russian ambassador living in DC and having a child there while serving a foreign government, would not produce a child who would be a US citizen. The Kim Ark case in the US Supreme Court in the 1890s is easily distinguished; that case was a probate type case and at the time anyone who came to the US to live indefinitely was subject to US jurisdiction unless, like the Russian ambassador, they had intentionally not renounced foreign citizenship. Appropriate interpretation of the 14th Amendment (to provide citizenship to previously enslaved Americans) is all that is needed. No new amendment necessary.

Read the 14th amendment it doesn’t give citizenship to children born of foreign parents from foreign states/countries. The sole purpose of this amendment was to only give citizenship to the freed slaves who became free persons with the 13 amendment. It further went into foreigners working in embassy and such stating they were of a foreign state(country) and not eligibly and any other illegally entered individual from a foreign state Country…

Correct Mr. Cestare Sr. The 14th amendment was for the freed slaves to receive citizenship. It has nothing to do with illegals giving birth on US soil and their children automatically become US citizens. Also, it’s time to eliminate all welfare, social security, WIC, SNAP, housing subsidizing, etc to illegals. Also, we need voter ID for anyone to vote in our elections.

I am all for ending the practice and have been for many years. Not only are women crossing from Mexico, but I understand that some are being shipped over from Asia on visitor status and having their babies here . Apparently, being an American means more to some countries and the taxpayer gets to pay for it. OH BOY!

As an OB nurse in San Diego I have cared for thousands of Mexican women who cross the border to have their babies. Once they have that birth certificate they qualify for food stamps, WIC program, monthly welfare checks and health care. They give an address in San Diego where checks are sent.
They usually move back to Mexico and welfare checks are forwarded to them. They can then support their families with this income. The more babies the more income. In addition, they now have a family member who is a USA citizen which makes legal immigration that much easier.
Sometimes I think we must be supporting half of Mexico. This anchor baby practice should stop.
