President Trump’s Bold Bipartisan Solution

In a rare moment of bipartisan agreement, President Trump has spearheaded a new piece of legislation that would help former convicts better reintegrate into the outside world. The Washington Examiner reports:

Shorter sentences for federal prison sentences may be on the horizon, with President Trump’s blessing.

Trump endorsed new legislation Wednesday that would reduce some federal sentences, arguing it’s “the right thing to do” and that only “truly bad criminals” deserve harsh penalties.

“Today’s announcement shows that true bipartisanship is possible, and maybe it will be thriving,” Trump said at the White House.

The reforms are included in bipartisan Senate legislation called the First Step Act. The bill has evolved in time, passing the House of Representatives earlier this year after sentencing reforms were axed at the behest of some Republicans.

This is not just a compassionate gesture, but will hopefully reduce repeat crimes which lead to more crime and more innocent victims.

Good for the President! People like the lady he pardoned a few months back, do NOT deserve a life sentence for what things like she did. Yes, dealing drugs is a bad thing, but, she got a longer sentence than most child molestors. The system seems to be rigged in favor of the bad dudes, & against people who do petty crimes. People need to wake up, & realize what we’re doing to these people. I realize that SOME people can’t be rehabilitated, but most can. We need more compassion toward the petty criminals. Now, if they sell drugs to children, then yes, throw the book at them. BUT child molestors, & murderers should be the ones that get life sentences. Just like Bernie Madoff. He ripped lots of people off, & should have gone to prison. Unfortunately, most of his victims never got paid back, & probably never will. He deserved his sentence.
