Trump Puts New Pressure on California
President Trump has called out California for its terrible forestry management, which seriously limits controlled burns. Fox News reports:
Just hours after President Trump issued an emergency declaration to provide funds to help firefighters in California as they battle at least three major wildfires across the state, the president threatened to withhold the federal payments — citing the state’s “gross mismanagement” of its forests.
Tweeting from Paris early Saturday, Trump wrote that “there is no reason for these massive, deadly and costly fires in California.” He added that “billions of dollars are given each year, with so many lives lost, all because of gross mismanagement of the forests. Remedy now, or no more Fed payments!”
The Camp Fire in Northern California, which has destroyed nearly 6,500 homes and killed at least nine people, appears to be the most destructive fire in at least a century.
The wildfire in the North incinerated most of the town of Paradise with flames, authorities said Friday. “There was really no firefight involved,” Capt. Scott McLean of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said, adding that the crew had to focus on helping people to get out alive. “These firefighters were in the rescue mode all day yesterday.”
Will the rest of the nation have to continue paying for California’s stupidity?

I think these fires were arson — I believe they were deliberatly set. Can this ever be proved?

Without video or a boast online it would be hard to prove that there was someone setting the fires. The Camp fire is suspected to be caused by power lines and 40mph wind, but they will investigate.
As far as mismanagement, that could be US Forest Service.
These lands should be privatized. Government has proven itself to be incompetent and conditions are becoming worse. If the government continues to force itself on the people, the people should take matters into its own hands.

Yes we will have to pay for the mismanagement of the CA polititions and these are the same people running the Congress into the ground come Jan ‘19! People out there try to do mitigation but they are hampered by one regulation or another. The loss of life is really distressing because my family could be next. My State has gone completely blue and even at my age, I can’t see myself living there much longer.
Cleaning debris out of the forest floor, dead trees limbs etc… makes a lot of difference. W. tried to do this 15 years ago and the TREE HUGGERS cried like babies and filed a law suit!!! Your EPA at work!!! Calipornia is a DIFFERENT WORLD called HOLLYWEIRD!!!!
Ca insists with their dem wit leadership on their stupid policies and yet the rest of the nation pays for it. And this does include financing their illegal sanctuary cities that are systematically destroying those beautiful spots in Ca. When you have to hire a POOP patrol specifically to clean up after the piglets that come from cesspools and have no idea of hygiene then you get what you advocate for.
I have been to Mexico and particularly along the border it smells like URINE and always has. That is what is being brought with the illegal aliens. Evidently in points south of the US you urinate where ever you want. I think we ought to fire the judges who keep blocking the administration on cleaning up that mess just like not doing good management of their existing forest. I think I read they are holding out because the management of forests goes against the old Bozo decisions and deals with Gore’s mantra of Global Warming or some other equally idiot zone cause.
CA is run by Democrats, and they abuse their power and misuse Federal funds that should have been used for water reserves and forestation. They also abused years of Federal funding to be used for maintenance on the Oroville Dam, but mismanaged that also. The money goes in Moonbeam’s pocket, and now Newsom’s! We tried to elect Cox, but once again, Democrats used voter fraud allowing illegals to vote and even though Cox was ahead most of the night, mysteriously and miraculously Newsom acquired enough votes to win.
The problem is always because we are a state run by Democrats! They embezzle money and CA falls to pieces.
Cox was never ahead in results I heard. He might have been ahead in a few counties. He was around 40% in pre-election polling. There is no mystery.
Cox led in farm and forest counties. Newsom had big leads in big cities Los Angeles, San Jose, San Francisco, San Diego, Sacramento.
California wants the rest of United States to pay for their mistakes. We shouldn’t have to do that. They are making the state a sanctuary state, let them pay for it with all the people coming in illegally. They should be able to raise enough money from all the businesses, that are using illegals to pay for all the restoration. Plus all of the homes are covered by fire insurance, let the insurance companies finally pony up to the table, for a change. If they can’t pay the damages, they shouldn’t be in the business, of selling insurance. Get them out of the business of selling insurance, to let the true companies, that can do what they are supposed to do, when things like this happen. Let the insurance companies pay for the risk they have taken on, or change the rules through congress. So they aren’t as profitable as in the past when the government bails them out, that’s what they have actuaries for.
Since Soros & Steyer have just a vested interest in CA, let them pay for everything, both fires & sanctuary cities.
CA has a lot of nerve requesting federal funds when they REFUSE to detain illegal invaders from ICE.
I totally agree with the President. The fools make their own disasters then they want federal dollars to deal with it. I think they should be told that funds will be predicated on certain conduct on their part. Ni change in their idiocy – no money to finance their madness.
I wouldn’t be surprised if these fires aren’t started by the illegals living in tents in the woods. Why not put them to work removing dry brush and dead trees which are kindling??? We shouldn’t be responsible for California’s stupidity! Cut their funding!!!

Many many many areas throughout the USA & World have mountains and hills just like California. Yet they are not continually in the news for fireside fires and mud slide destruction like California!! Maybe they need more education on forrestry management or someone else running that department. California is the biggest laughing stock in America!!

Actually, California has a good excuse for bad forestry management and ensuing destructive forest fires: They have too much human excrement in their cities to constantly pick up!
Why is paying for the mismanagement of their forests such a big deal we already pay for their Highest Unemployment Rate, their Highest Welfare Rate, their Highest Illegal Alien Rate and their Highest Homeless Rate and God knows how many other Highest Rates.
The environmentalist live in California and demand that the forests be left alone, they are democrats as the Governor and the state legislature of California!
They did the same thing last year with the funds for their damaged dam . It put thousands of people’s lives in danger . President Trump came out and said he is willing to work with Democrats and Gavin Newsom said I got news for President Trump California will run California (not in those words) How disrepectful and rude. President Trump is right are government in California has not used the money we get from the Feds to repair are forest , schools, roads or anything else. Not sure where any of the money goes but I have a good idea.

Florida learned many years ago about the stupidity of liberal forest management, but like true liberals the ignorant Mexifornians ignored the lesson. They caused t heir own problems, period, so you reap what stupidity you sow.
Why don’t they not allow any Campfires to be used or not allow Camping at all. That’s a lot cheaper than the expense of fighting the Fires and the “Loss of Life”.
The State caused the fire to glean more money to house and feed the illegals after Trump said he will stop the funding them!
It has nothing to do with forestry management! They are on the verge of bankruptcy ! And they need the money so they set fires to the land and say a camper did it! And of course lives are at stake so Trump now has to fund them!
