The fight on Capital Hill to get Kavanaugh confirmed has heated up. Fox News reports:
The atmosphere on Capitol Hill turned especially tense Wednesday amid mounting protests from demonstrators in the halls of Congress, as lawmakers await the release of the FBI’s report on its Brett Kavanaugh background investigation and prepare to vote on his polarizing nomination to the Supreme Court.
The supercharged environment on Capitol Hill led Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., on Wednesday to decry the harassment of senators during a speech on the Senate floor.
“One of our colleagues and his family were effectively run out of a restaurant in recent days,” McConnell said. “Another reported having protestors physically block his car door. And some have seen organized far-left protesters camp out at their homes.”
An increased police presence was visible Wednesday, as officers were seen protecting Republican senators who were coming and going from their offices. Maine Sen. Susan Collins, a crucial undecided vote on Kavanaugh’s nomination, was seen being escorted to votes by a Capitol Police detail.
Washington is on the edge, and a spark could prove catastrophic.

It certainly is time to not allow anyone near the meetings of Senators and House Members anyehere in the Capitol Complex without an invitatin from a mrnber of Congress. If a grioup or person approved by a member cause any type of disturbance that members privledge to invite is suspended for 12 months.

That is the purpose of the First [and most important] Amendment: to protect speech that might be unpopular. Freedom comes with responsibitlities and some apparently cannot handle it. I do not think anyone involved in crafting the First Amenmvnt thought thugs wiuld hurt, kill and destroy public and private property to force their beliefs on others. Gerald Serlin, you are quite correct on free speech and the right to protest however, no one has the right to disturb the peace or to destroy the property of others nor to threaten them with violence. If people feel they have the right to yell and scream at others just because they are upset and can’t have their own way or that they disagree, that is wrong. Those who believe that they can lie, steal, commit perjury, cause destruction of lives or property or whatever the want without having to pay for their deeds are sadly mistaken. Each and everyone who falls into those categories should be brought to trial and if found guilty imprisoned until they have served every day of their sentence.

It should be very simple. Anyone violating any rights of any person or US Senator should be arrested. If they block a car door, arrest them. If they physically touch or impede freedom of passage arrest them. Let quit playing games and enforce the laws for everyone.
Let’s get to the heart of all this, our Constitution gives us the right to peaceably assemble. These people have no legal rights to do and say the stupid things they say and do; they have no right to block members of Congress who are trying to do their jobs, whether they like them or not. They also have no legal rights to bother any member of Congress or their staff members at home or in a restaurant with their family. If republicans can increase the number of members in each house there is no limit to what President Trump may accomplish in the coming six years.
