Administration Explains Why Tariffs Matter

Tariffs are a controversial aspect of Trump’s economic plan, but Secretary Perdue has a way of explaining it. The Daily Caller reports:

Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue defended his administration’s strategy of levying tariffs on a number of foreign goods, arguing that the moves will be beneficial in the long run.

Perdue likened U.S. tariffs to a weight loss regimen during a television interview on Wednesday.

“First of all, we’ve got to acknowledge there is legitimate anxiety over the tariffs and the pain they’ve caused. I’ve kind of used a metaphor that I can personally identify with: It’s a little bit like weight loss. If you’re overweight and you go on a diet, it’s kind of painful to start with, but you’re healthier in the end,” explained the Agriculture Secretary while speaking to Fox News. “That’s exactly what President Trump’s message is.”

Perdue — who served as the governor of Georgia in the early 2000s before President Donald Trump appointed him to his administration — was speaking on behalf of a litany of tariffs that have been enacted on foreign imports. Trump levied tariffs on European and Chinese goods, arguing that they unfairly trade with the U.S., but their governments have returned fire with their own round of tariffs.

Whether tariffs are the correct action for America, this at least lays the facts right.

Tariffs are the worst thing to do! Raiding prices, is sticking it to the consumers and business! Perdue is an idiot to support Tariffs!
Punishing the American Costumer I’d not the way to do business
In the world, the best way is pullout of the Foreign markets and see what happens! Stop Punishing the poor and middle class with stupidity as Tariffs I that stupidity!

Your solution is exact reason why steel and aluminum costs so much, when China and other countries are only producers. If we had gone into WWII with present system, who and where would the tanks, airplanes, bombs, tanks, trucks, jeeps, and all the fighting equipment that USA manufactured with women and 4F adults? And the men were released to be in military, went off to war, and fought the war. Look around you in your neighborhood. If another war broke out like WWII, how many years would it take to get the young folks in their parents basements toughened up to be able to walk, run, do pull ups, push ups, shoot a gun and hit something. Some of them are very good at killing other young folks, but that is in drive-by or up close, where they can’t miss. In WWII, we had young men who fished, hunted, and was out in sports, who were athletic, tough, and could go to war in 2 or 3 months. Not so now. No, we need to get those factories and mines operating in USA by North Americans, again, and we can afford to put enough steel into vehicles to keep the greasy side down on highway, and quit going air borne, or in water, becoming a boat and floating away. Made in America will again be something to sell products by. Let the other countries do their own thing, under what ever government they want. But keep North America as REPUBLIC, and lead the world. Donald has turned USA around. Now stop the Socialist Democrats, who are changing our morals, morale, economy, and with tax and spend policies.

America has awaken over decades of unfair trade practices with foreign countries. America has to look after its people. Foreign countries have taken advantage of our weak trade policies due to past presidents too weak to confront the issues and only concern of image abroad rather its own people.

“@Ken J. Bower,”
You fell victim to anti-Trump propaganda which strains to make your points
believable. It reminds me of the response President Reagan gave to his “doomsday forecasting” critics (my paraphrase): “You seem to know a lot, too bad all you know is wrong.”
The goal is to lower the tariffs across the board. Chinese already folded and
President Xi pledged to lower tariffs on American cars. Problem solved, and
there is added awareness that we are watching. Sooner rather than later others will follow.
