Saying Goodbye to an Outdated Tax Code

This Tax Day, President Donald J. Trump and Members of Congress are highlighting the benefits of historic tax cuts and reforms for American families and businesses.

PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP IN USA TODAY: America’s Economy Is Back and Roaring and Its People Are Winning

“Tuesday is a day hardworking Americans may dread more than any other. Tax Day. A day that individuals and families, small business owners and part-time workers struggle to conquer a burdensome, complex and extremely unfair tax code to determine how much money they owe the government. But we are changing Tax Day for Americans across the country. This is the last year Americans will fill out outdated, complicated tax forms. In the years ahead, because I signed one of the largest tax cuts in history and the most sweeping tax reform in a generation, many Americans will complete their taxes on a simple, single sheet of paper.”

SPEAKER PAUL RYAN (R-WI) AT FOX NEWS: Tax Day Isn’t Usually a Day to Celebrate. This Year Is Different

“Filing taxes is something that fills most of us with dread. We do the costly, complicated chore and can’t wait to move on. It’s usually not a day to celebrate.  But this year, for a change, there is good news. Thanks to the recently enacted ‘Tax Cuts and Jobs Act,’ this is the last time you will have to file your taxes under the old, outdated system. What does this mean for middle-income families? In short, more money and less hassle.”

HOUSE WAYS AND MEANS COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN REP. KEVIN BRADY (R-TX) IN USA TODAY: After April 17, Goodbye to the Old, Broken Tax Code. Hello, Economic Revival.

“On Tuesday, April 17, we Americans file our taxes — for the last time — under the old, broken tax code. Yes, for the last time. Goodbye and good riddance to that outdated, monstrosity of a tax code that took too much of your money, sent our American jobs overseas, and kept our economy so slow many workers didn’t see a pay raise for a decade or more. Going forward, Americans should all take comfort knowing that this time next year they’ll file under the new, modern tax code that lowers taxes for families and local businesses — and leapfrogs America to the lead pack among the world’s tax codes.”

SENATE FINANCE COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN SEN. ORRIN HATCH (R-UT) IN THE DAILY HERALD: Tax Day 2018: Out with the Old, In with the New

“To this day, I still think of spring as the perfect time to say, out with the old, in with the new. Looking back on the past four-plus decades I’ve spent in politics, I can think of no better day for us to celebrate that same sentiment than today. After all, this tax day is the last time most of us will ever have to think about our old, outdated tax code. Next April 15, Americans will file under an updated tax code that prioritizes middle-class tax relief, higher wages and job creation instead of special interests.”

SEN. DAN SULLIVAN (R-AK) IN ANCHORAGE DAILY NEWS: Relief for Alaskans on Tax Day

“Simply put, the tax bill is a major win for Alaska and for our country. The less money that Washington takes from the private sector, the more Alaskans can put toward creating business opportunities and hiring workers. The more money Alaskans have in their paychecks, the more they can save for their kids’ college, pay off bills, take a much needed vacation, or circulate that money in our local economy.”

SEN. JOHN THUNE (R-SD) IN ARGUS LEADER: Out with the Old, In with the New

“Up until 2018, the only good news about Tax Day was the fact that we had 365 days until the next one. This year is a little different, though. There’s plenty to celebrate, not the least of which is that 2018 is the last time you and your family will need to file your federal taxes under the old, burdensome system. It’s out with the old, and in with the new. And not a moment too soon.”

REP. MARKWAYNE MULLIN (R-OK) IN WASHINGTON EXAMINER: It’s the End of the Tax Code as We Know It (and I Feel Fine)

“This year, Oklahomans can be glad that this is the last year they will have to file their taxes under the outdated tax code. Starting in 2019, Oklahomans can file their taxes on a simpler form and take advantage of a nearly doubled standard deduction.”

REP. DANIEL WEBSTER (R-FL) IN DAILY COMMERCIAL: It’s the Last Day of the Old Tax System

“It’s hardworking Americans least favorite day — Tax Day. Good news is this is the last time you will have to file taxes under the old, unfair tax system. Thanks to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act passed by Republicans in Congress and signed into law by President Trump, hardworking, middle-class families across Florida will finally keep more of their hard-earned money. Small businesses in our area will finally be free from oppressive tax rates that kept them from expanding and hiring.”

REP. BRAD WENSTRUP (R-OH) IN THE CINCINNATI ENQUIRER: Tax Cut Making a Real Difference in the Lives of Real Americans

“This is the last Tax Day under the old, burdensome tax code. Now that we’re into 2018, workers are already seeing more money in their take-home pay, and next tax filing season will continue to reflect these improvements.”

Old tax code gone is great and welcome a simplistic code. I thank president Trump the House and Senate for making this happen. I have to say to those who failed to support this effort I truly hope you appreciate it as well now. God Bless America the Greatest Country in the World.

Thank you Mr. President and all others who assisted in getting that antiquated tax reptile out of the way. Now those of us working and those retired can welcome a new day. I’ve always said the CEO of the US Government should be a businessperson with a proven track record to guide the daily activities of running the huge organization. We now have an exceptional leader.
“We are free at last, free at last. Thank God Almighty we are free at last!” God Bless and guide the Donald, the Congress and our Magistrates. In God We Trust.

So, EVERY Democrat voted AGAINST the tax reform bill? And, they – the DUMocrats – want & expect voters to “vote them into office” – knowing FULL WELL they are going to REPEAL the tax cuts? Am I missing something? Really? If you are a DUMocrat let me suggest that you CHANGE Parties immediately! Please, please use what common sense God gave you & use your brains – NOT your other body parts – to keep OUR money in OUR pockets – NOT in the hands of wild, loose, goofy, irresponsible politicians! I’m begging you – do NOT vote DUMocrat on ANY issue – EVER!

Talk to me in a few years when the individual cuts are gone and you get a tax increase. See how you love the Trumpster then. And why did 80% of the benefits go to those who didn’t need it with a debt increase of a minimum of $1.5 trillion? I thought you hated deficits.

I found this Article too much said over and over again. This author needs to learn how to write his news and finish.

Thank you, President Trump, for your magnificent work on the tax code. Business is booming and spirits are up because of your work on all fronts.
Let’s keep up the pressure on immigration reform, the border wall, and the rounding up of all illegals. Sharpen the teeth on ICE to combine with the border Patrol to give the sanctuary politicians something to think about.
And it’s great to have the national guard personnel in place. Give them weapons in case of trouble.
Thank you again Mr. President, for giving America a tremendous boost in stature and respect.

I am so glad by God’s grace and fervent prayers and hard work by American patriots, that Hillary is not POTUS and we can celebrate lower taxes and dispensing with the old onerous tax code. All my employees (myself included) received a pay raise and a bonus. A new day for the working man and woman in America. A new day for the businessman and woman in America! Thank you President Trump.

The tax code has not changed that much. The income tax is as complicated as ever if not more. Billionaires and Wall Street are the big winners with their huge tax cuts made permanent. Many in the middle, including myself, will pay more because of juggling of the tax brackets and because of loss of important deductions such as the deductions for local and state taxes. Others will get temporary benefits which will later be taken away. Because of these tax changes well over a trillion dollars ($1,000,000,000,000) will be added to the deficit.

I have never seen such a ignorant group of people. So when we have no infrastructure in this country at all and the deficit is trillions more than it is now, what will you say? You only care about yourselves and not a whit about the poor. Sad. Please don’t call yourselves Christians.

It is not the job of the federal government to take care of the orphans and widows- the poor if you will. It is the mandate of the church and private associations. Read the Constitution of the US, you will find that enumerated powers of the Federal government are much more limited than the powers that it portends to now.

We support and volunteer at our local food bank and pantry. What do you do? We give, along with our employees to St. Judes. I am not expecting the government to give to anyone. That is our responsibility. I am sure there is a food bank in your area that needs support. Give and help. Quit judging others and judge yourself.

If America went to the FAIR TAX in lieu of the federal income tax, you could decide for yourself how much you’d pay in taxes. And you would NEVER file ANY form whatsoever as a fed tax submission. At present illegal immigrants LOVE America because they pay no fed income tax. But when they make purchases, they pay sales tax. So the best answer would be to scrap the present fed income tax and have EVERYONE pay a fed sales tax — even illegals. The FAIR TAX broadens the tax base in the population to include everyone who is presently hiding their true income. Your money becomes YOURS first … at present you have to pay the fed FIRST and learn to live off of whatever you have left.

Janna, come down into the real world, please! If an illegal works for wages (presumably with a phony ID), then they are paying Federal Income Tax, along with SS and State Income Tax via withholding. Then they never file for refunds and we get to keep it! As far as ease of collecting a sales tax, just research the many conferences and meetings state departments of revenue addressing loopholes and non-compliance. Many years ago the Europeans had the same (and in many cases worse) such problems, so they instituted V.A.T.’s (Value Added Taxes) where a small levy was added at each step in production and distribution, each new recipient could claim credit for all the taxes that went on before, minimizing revenue loss. Of course this morphed into more forms filed, cross checked and loopholes developing. Taxation is an art form not for the faint of heart.

I support the Fair Tax, where the big spenders pay more, than the frugal spenders!
Everyone pays, including illegal border jumpers, drug felons, mafia wise guys, everyone who works ‘under the table’! The amount of tax is offset by the removal from cost base of all the hidden taxation on producers!

You can bet your bottom dollar (pun intended) the current tax code was passed as a ponzi scheme to “soak the rich.” Then after 30 years it went to soaking everyone else including those who can’t really afford it. Then it is written the Lord will avenge the defrauded.
